Terms of Use

Last updated 20 August 2026

The short versionThe game is free, there is nothing to sign up for, and you may play it as much as you like. Please do not copy the artwork or the questions and pass them off as your own.

Using the game

What If? is free to play in a browser, with no account and no payment. You are welcome to use it at home, in a classroom, or in a club, and to show it to as many children as you like.

What belongs to us

The drawings, the writing, the questions, the narration and the name Doodle Theory belong to us. You may link to the game freely and you may show it to people. You may not copy the artwork or the question bank into another product, or republish the videos as your own.

The science

Every answer here is checked, and where a fact is genuinely disputed we leave the question out rather than pick a side. Even so, this is a game rather than a textbook: the explanations are deliberately short, and a short explanation always leaves something out. It is not a substitute for a teacher, and it is not advice.

Some questions describe things you can try at home. Those were chosen to be safe and ordinary — a straw, a balloon, a glass of water. A few involve a candle or hot soup. Children should have an adult with them for anything involving flame, heat or sharp edges.

No warranty

The game is provided as it is, without any promise that it will always work, always be available, or suit any particular purpose. We are not liable for any loss arising from using it — which, given that it stores nothing but a score on your own device, we hope stays theoretical.

Changes

These terms may change as the game grows. The date at the top will change with them.
